June 12 ICF North Texas Coaches Workshop

Group Coaching Competencies: Leveraging the Power of Collective Wisdom

By Pam Van Dyke, PhD, PCC

1:30 to 3:30 PM (Immediately following the luncheon program)

The purpose of group coaching is to engage each individual on their own respective goals by using the vehicle of group process. Leveraging the input of other members in the group, individual awareness can be increased (Lewin, 1951; Corey, 1990; Forsyth, 2006). This approach can be referred to as a horizontal approach because each individual is at the same level and is not inter-related organizationally or otherwise. It is one coach working with a group of individuals who share similarities personally or professionally.

Those who do not come from a group dynamic background and aspire to coach groups will understand the key components about both group process and group facilitation. This knowledge can make a difference in how a coach facilitates the group and thereby how the participants will internalize the experience.

Workshop Outcomes:

  • Recognize the role of the Coach in the group coaching process
  • Review the structure necessary to conduct group coaching successfully by being introduced to the PERFORM™ model of group coaching
  • Discuss the process of coaching versus the process of facilitation
  • Practice the components of group coaching through a role play experience
