Is There Unconscious Bias in My Coaching? Yes!
Tony Gilliard

11:15 AM – 1:15 PM

In Person at Las Colinas Country Club
4400 N O’Connor Road
Irving, TX 75061

Or Virtually Via Zoom

Cost for In-Person Attendees: Members – $40 / Non-Members $50
Cost for Virtual Attendees: Members – $30 / Non-Members - $40

Tony Gilliard is a strategic Diversity and Inclusion Executive Consultant and Coach. He combines his knowledge and expertise in business and industry with the reality of our lived experiences to help teams and organizations understand the value of DEI&J and its impact on businesses and organizations. Heralded as a dynamic and inspirational people expert with outstanding business acumen, Tony is a leader who uses inspirational, motivational speaking, and dynamic facilitation to get desired results.
In a word, yes, we all have unconscious bias, and there is no way around it. Buried deep inside your “unconscious mind” are memories of where and how you grew up, friends you played with, parents who reared you, teachers who taught you, the media you consumed, and hundreds of other experiences you encountered over your lifespan. The challenge is how we choose to manage that bias once it is no longer unconscious! When we go into a coaching session, we bring our whole selves to the engagement. It just may be that the smallest percentage of your “whole self” is the training, education, and experience you have as a coach. The foundation on which your work has been built started long before your formal education.

The Impact of DEIJ on My Coaching Practice
Tony Gilliard

1:30 – 3:30 PM CT

In Person at Las Colinas Country Club
4400 N O’Connor Road
Irving, TX 75061

Or Virtually Via Zoom

Workshop Fee:  Chapter Members - $69 / Non-Chapter Members - $79

Join us following our chapter meeting and program as Tony Gilliard delves into the impact of DEIJ on your coaching practice. You've had a successful coaching practice, and now the conversations are changing. George Floyd; the pandemic; another police shooting of an unarmed Black man; and your client, a Black mother of two teenage boys seeking to become SVP of Procurement in the middle of a supply chain crisis. Buckle up, folks; you've still got to make a living.

Our responsibilities as coaches don't change because the world does. Our approach and understanding of the world's impact on our clients and our practice may shift, but we work in the best interests of our clients to help them gain clarity and focus on achieving their goals. However, the conversations may now be different and even a little uncomfortable. But what makes them uncomfortable? How do you become comfortable with your discomfort?

A Note from Your Chapter DEIJB Committee

The ICF-North Texas chapter has embarked on a learning journey to increase our awareness of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging (DEIJB). We invite you to be an open and active participant as we explore various topics together. We recognize each of us is on our unique journey, and the conversations and discussions may be encouraging for some and challenging for others. Your engagement, experiences, and voice are needed and valued throughout this process. Please share ANY comments, reflections, or resources with a member of the DEIJB committee directly as we continue to create future opportunities (contact past-pres@icf-nt.com). Thank you for being on this learning journey.

As part of our commitment to DEIJB within our chapter and our broader community, we would appreciate your participation in a one-minute demographic survey. Please scan the QR code to take the survey. The survey will be open through June 12, 2023. Please note that your responses will remain confidential. Just go to menti.com and enter the code below.

We are thrilled to announce our keynote speaker for Celebrate Coaching 2023: Debjani Biswas, CEO and Founder of Coachieve, LLC. Debjani is a PCC Certified Coach, speaker and author of several books on the topic of Diversity and Inclusion. Texas Coaches Coalition's All Texas Retreat and Conference

On March 21, a group of North Texas ICF members gathered in New Braunfels for the Texas Coaches Coalition’s All Texas Retreat and Conference. We came home refreshed, invigorated, and excited, but tired. It was wonderful to see how well ICF-North Texas was represented. We presented, led, collaborated, and connected with coaches from all over the state, as well as other parts of our country and even Europe!

It was a powerful three days being surrounded by 87 other coaches at one time in one place. The energy was off the charts and I encourage you to experience it at next year’s event. Next year it will be held at TBarM again on March 21-24. Mark your calendars now. A special thank you to Teresa Pool and Meg Rentschler for leading/presenting in sessions. Huge thanks to these North Texas Members who serve on TCC’s Board and worked tirelessly to host this event: Mina Brown, CurVie Burton, Steve Coxsey, Ken Jenkins, Wendy Lee, and Alma Weaver Jones.

Member Snapshot - Honorary Members Peggy Peterson and Patty Vaccaro

We created the Member Snapshot a few years ago when getting together in person was a challenge. This is a way we can know each other better because these added relationships are a joy for us – and relationships are the fabric of our thriving chapter! We are constantly amazed at the synergy that happens across our members. Today we are especially excited to introduce you to some ‘honorary chapter members’ – two of the people who come alongside our leaders to make our experience with ICF-North Texas great: Peggy Peterson and Patty Vaccaro. Peggy and Patty are a big part of why ICF-North Texas chapter is such a consistently award-winning one that offers so many benefits to the coaching and greater community. These experts are behind the scenes in a variety of ways, and we are happy to share more about them with you today.

Peggy Peterson – Peak Editing & Virtual Support, LLC
Meet Peggy Peterson, CPS, VAA, VA, of Peak Editing and Virtual Support in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Peggy is our email and newsletter expert extraordinaire and has been working with ICF-North Texas since 2008. Whenever you receive a newsletter or an email on upcoming events and speakers, it is Peggy who has worked with the board to collect and consolidate all necessary information. She puts it all together for our members so that you can review your options and take action. Says Peggy, “I love the work I do for ICF-North Texas and I don’t do it alone. Patty Vaccaro’s graphics and Lisa Murray’s website support are vital pieces of getting my work product out to our chapter members!”

As a freelance editor and proofreader, a virtual author's assistant (VAA), and a virtual assistant (VA), Peggy works on manuscripts for non-fiction and fiction books for authors, and white papers, case studies, articles, blogs, and newsletters for her clients. She says, “After 30 years in the corporate world, I went back to school and started my own editing business. I am blessed to be able to do work that I love and am passionate about. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work with more and more coaches, for whom I have such a high regard. Coaches are like trusted teachers who help the rest of us reach our potential.”

Peggy lived in Colorado for more than 40 years, where she enjoyed skiing, fishing, and hiking in the mountains. When her husband passed away a few years ago, she decided to return to the Midwest to be nearer to her ten siblings as well as her daughter and step-daughter and her two grandchildren. Says Peggy, “I love being back in the Midwest and enjoy my new home in Minnesota.

Patty Vaccaro - True North Marketing
Patty is an independent marketing professional with a wealth of experience providing creative, analytical, and organizational support to small businesses and entrepreneurial clients. She is passionate about marketing and design, and brings big picture thinking combined with the ability to manage processes and details to make things happen.

For our chapter, Patty plays an integral role in keeping our leaders connected. She ensures that we have clear and consistent design and branding so that we continue to build brand trust and confidence with both existing and prospective members.

Patty has been working with ICF-North Texas since 2018 when she lent her skills to support the planning of our flagship event, Celebrate Coaching. Her role has expanded over the years to support our communications, membership, programs, online platforms, and special events committees by creating messaging and providing graphic design support to promote our chapter and its activities throughout the year.

Patty's background includes 30+ years of working in notable advertising agencies in both Texas and Florida serving consumer and B2B clients across a variety of categories, including technology, toys and games, beverages, real estate and more. In this role, she was responsible for leading teams, managing advertising campaigns, and making sure all work was delivered on strategy, on time, and on budget. She learned how to understand how organizations and business works, and how to connect with all stakeholders to reach goals and help to make everyone successful.

In addition to the work she does for ICF-North Texas, Patty also provides marketing support to a variety of entrepreneurial clients, small businesses, and non-profit organizations. She loves a good challenge and likes to ask "why" to ensure that every task and project—no matter how small—is rooted in a reason.

Patty and her husband Joe have two teenaged children and live in Lewisville, Texas. If you're not already connected, get to know more about Patty by connecting with her on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/patty-vaccaro-4396099/.
